As a photographer (and local!), I often get asked, “Where’s the best place for family photos around NOLA?” So I’ve pulled together some of my favorite spots that are perfect for everything from casual, candid sessions to beautifully styled portraits.
Whether you're a New Orleans native or just visiting with your crew, these locations offer something special for every kind of family vibe.
1. City Park
Hands down one of the most popular photo locations in the city—and for good reason. With its ancient oak trees dripping with Spanish moss, charming bridges, and the whimsical Carousel Gardens, City Park has it all. Want something a little more artistic? The Besthoff Sculpture Garden is a stunning spot with modern art installations and peaceful pathways.
Best for: Natural light portraits, playful kids, large family groups
2. The French Quarter
Don’t let its party reputation fool you—the French Quarter is full of quiet charm in the early morning. Picture your family framed by colorful shutters, iron balconies, and cobblestone streets. It’s perfect for that classic NOLA look, with a bit of storybook magic.
Pro tip: Early mornings are golden. You’ll beat the crowds and get that soft, dreamy light.
3. Audubon Park
Right along St. Charles Avenue, Audubon Park is a serene space filled with oak-lined paths, wide green fields, and a peaceful lagoon. It’s the kind of place that makes you slow down, and that shows in the photos.
Bonus: The nearby streetcars and zoo make it a great day trip location after your session.
4. The Garden District
If you love the idea of grand homes, lush gardens, and vintage Southern charm, the Garden District is your go-to. It's ideal for a more polished, elegant look—think holiday cards, anniversary portraits, or multi-generational family sessions.

5. Bayou St. John
Calm, peaceful, and a little bit quirky, Bayou St. John is a low-key favorite. It’s great for lifestyle sessions where you want to show your family just being themselves—walking along the water, feeding ducks, or just enjoying the day.

6. Longue Vue House & Gardens
Tucked away in the heart of the city, Longue Vue House & Gardens feels like a European escape. With its manicured lawns, reflecting pools, secret garden paths, and stunning architecture, this estate is an absolute gem for elegant, timeless family portraits. It’s especially beautiful in spring when the flowers are in bloom!
